Today I was sitting in front of my computer (same as always, my friends would say) and thought of what interesting articles to write and spotted the following idea: how would my perfect tablet look like and how it should perform.
That’s right, my perfect tablet, not the perfect tablet. Needless to say that the perfect tablet doesn’t exist yet, and won’t ever be built, because perfect is something that depends on who you ask.
I’m not dealing with perfection in this post but with expressing my way of seeing the perfect tablet.
This is by far the most important thing, no need to emphasize that. I see 11-12 inch diagonal the perfect size, with resolution at least HD ready (1366 x 768), maybe more pixels on the vertical plane. Capacitive and multitouch is a must. Wide viewing angles and high brightness mode for outdoor viewing are also on my list. Edge-to-edge glass would be nice, I recon.
I want my tablet to be as fast as possible. I’m aiming currently for an ULV CPU, maybe with hyper-threading from the Intel Calpela series. OS is a big problem as Android and iPhone OS are not suited for me and Windows 7 is not ideal for touch tablets as power consumption and UI usability. Buttons are simply too small to press without error each and every time. So it’s clear that the perfect tablet OS isn’t here yet, something light but with all the features of a desktop system.

Design is easy, building it is another thing
Don’t tell me you’re a fan of virtual keyboards. They’re good enough to write an URL address and respond to an SMS, but if you’re planning on writing long emails or documents you need a physical QWERTY keyboard. I see the keyboard as an add-on for a docking station, just like ASUS imagined the EEE PAD EP121. This way you can use the perfect tablet as a laptop, when you’re sitting on a desk and take it out for a spin when sitting on a couch.
It would be nice to have a built in kick stand so you can watch a movie without having to hold the tablet in hand (inclination angle should be between 60-80 degrees). Also a kind of kick stand that would raise the tablet by 20-30 degrees would be nice for typing on the virtual keyboard with the tablet laying on a flat surface.
This is simple: USB, microSD, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth plus maybe WiMax.
The more the merrier, right? I would like to get at least 5 hours of one charge and don’t have to worry about what apps to run in order to achieve this milestone. The only thing is to watch the overall weight of the tablet, to not exceed 2-2.5 pounds. Anything heavier and it becomes a burden.
I know I’m dreaming right now, you don’t have to remind me, but its nice sometimes to lay down the things you like on a sheet of paper (or blog for that matter). I would be interesting to hear from you how you see the perfect tablet, in your opinion. Leave a comment below if you wish.
I am hoping and waiting for the similar thing as you asked for.
A screen with 1366 resolution, 5 hours min. work hours. A physical keyboard, a more advanced CPU than ATOM 280/450.
I also looks into, easy pen writing on the hard screen or on the pad. If on the screen, not solely pressure, a thing between resistive and pure capacitive.
I also do not want to wait for ever.
I just bought an hp tm2, and it rocks. 7-8 hrs of battery, responsive multi touch, key board, culv processor, 6 gigs of ram, ati 4550 gpu. Yeah it ain’t half a pound, but there isn’t a tablet now or in two years that can do what this puppy can. Full hd hulu from bed. I’m happy with no compromise.
all your thoughts to me are pretty good. I would add a unlocked gsm sim slot. A 10 in diag. is okay if it were able to fold in half; as a 7 in is just handy sized to fit in a pocket etc. Cost around 200 USD and be easily upgradeable.
