One of the things the iPad needs to do in order to attract businesses and corporations is to run a fully fledged version of Microsoft Office. This is probably the iconic software title that has eluded the iPad since its release. There was some speculation about Microsoft working on an Office version for iPad back in November, but nothing concrete until this week, when I saw this picture with an iPad clearly displaying what seems to be the homescreen of a new Office suite. You can clearly see...
We've been talking a little bit here about the Android 4.0 upgrade path for current tablets and I've reported back then that the 1st generation Transformer tablet will get its Over-the-Air update sometime in March.Well, the process has already started, for now in Taiwan, with the rest of the world following soon, according to ASUS (Update: it's coming tomorrow in US). On the same Facebook page where ASUS made its announcement the company also hinted at several innovations which will be annou...
I don't know why, but I feel that I'm going to get criticized a lot about this article. I guess you've all seen the heat Apple is taking lately for the bad working conditions in its supply chain factories, namely Foxconn. You might have also seen the ABC report (embedded at the end of this post) that was made thanks to Apple's eagerness to show the world that rumors are completely unfounded and the world's richest company cares about each and every individual employed by Apple or working on mark...
One of the companies that tries to compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire is Barnes and Noble with their Nook Tablet, a product that features slightly better specs than Amazon's 7 inch slate, but comes with a 50 dollars higher price tag, something that most consumers looking for cheap tablets will take into consideration before making their purchase. That's why B&N launched a new 8GB Nook Tablet that starts at $199, the same price as Kindle Fire. As expected, the new cheaper Nook Tablet is a...
I'm glad to see people showing an interest in RIM, and the company delivering on its promise: the launch of the Blackberry OS 2.0 for the Playbook tablet, a subject we've covered extensively here. So it's now time to take a look at the BB OS 2.0, after a few hours of personal experience with it. Will it deliver on RIM's promise, will finally early Playbook adopters get what they expected? Read on to find out. Before we begin I want to tell you one thing about me and the way I feel about impor...
It's February 21st and finally RIM started pushing the Blackberry OS 2.0 for Playbook to its 7 inch tablet. As with any over-the-air update this one is very easy to install and I only needed to retry once before getting my device up to date (remember the iOS 5.0 update nightmare?).This is just a short post in which I'm just going to list a few videos I took since this morning with BB OS 2.0. I have to say the Messaging/Email, Calendar and Contacts apps are really nice done, provide tight int...
I'm sure you remember the ASUS Padfone, a concept showcased by the company last year, which features an Android smartphone that can be docked inside a case, becoming instantly a slate tablet. Motorola has something similar, called the [easyazon-link asin="B004M17D62" locale="us"]Atrix dock[/easyazon-link], which uses a laptop shell instead of a tablet body. These two concepts would allow in theory to switch between the extremely portable smartphone format to a 'fully' functional PC, thus allo...
One of the players no one saw coming into the tablet race a few months ago is Amazon, a company known for pushing its services to consumers through subsidies for various popular products that are used as a gateway for purchasing content from Amazon. The Kindle eReader was the first example of this brilliant strategy, then followed the Amazon Kindle Fire at the end of 2011.Now it seems Amazon wants to strike one again into the eBook competition with a color eInk 6 inch eReader. This could be ...
Among the iPad 3 rumors [our coverage] floating around there was little said about the tablet's digital cameras, but everyone expected a bump in resolution, lens and speed, the aspects that made the first camera enabled iPad 2 a lousy shooter.I feel like I need to remind you about the negative record held by the iPad2, the world's only device with a camera resolution smaller than the one of the screen. Apparently the third generation iPad tablet will be a much better shooter, as a leaked pho...
Yesterday was February 17th, the day RIM was supposed to launch the BB OS 2.0 for the 7 inch Playbook tablet. As we've anticipated that didn't happen, and now there's strong evidence the software update will arrive on February 21th next week.Four days isn't that much and I'm willing to live with that, as it seems RIM has prepared a few official apps (read native) that will be available with the new OS version. Most notable ones are the Twitter and Kindle apps. Expect also quite a few titles ...
