Remember the ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC, the one with Windows Embedded Compact 7, a strange OS that wasn’t particularly advertised by Microsoft. Well, it seems latest news suggest ASUS is ditching that for Android 3.0, a more capable OS for tablets. I guess when Steve Ballmer said lots of Windows 7 Tablets are coming he wasn’t referring to the Eee Pad EP101TC.

For me this is a pretty logical choice, as I wouldn’t want my first batch of tablets to come to market with a new and unproven OS, especially one from Microsoft, who isn’t known for the quality and user friendliness of its mobile OSes. Apparently Android 3.0 Gingerbread is the one that ASUS is aiming for to launch EP101TC (at CES 2011), but if delays appear down the road me might see the first model shipping with Android 2.2 Froyo, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Till then all we have to do is wait.
