I still remember like it was yesterday the Terminator 2 movie. The T1000 liquid metal robot made me dream of a nearby future where we could mold liquid just like plastic, but in a more peaceful way, not end of the world kind of way. Apparently things moved faster than anticipated, as Liquidmetal Technologies is already producing such a metal with twice the durability of titanium and which is extremely hard and strong, resistant to corrosion, scratching, and staining, and highly conductive to heat and electricity.
Apple likes Liquidmetal Technologies so much that it bought the company, making us dream of what Apple is planning for their future products. The universal number one guess is that Apple is going to produce their unibody aluminum Macs and iPads using the new metals that are easier to mold and have better heat transfer capabilities (fanless Macbooks anyone?). The only known downside to date is that this liquid metal is heavier than aluminum. The other downside we’re anticipating is the price, but that’s something that time will sort out sooner or later once production ramps up in numbers.
