While I was occupied with the Easter bunny stuff Apple was busy launching it’s iPad on April 3rd all over its US stores. Apparently it was a success, but that was to be expected since the media coverage of the Apple tablet was something bigger than anyone might have imagined a few months ago, when the first rumors started to appear.

But let’s not revive the past and take a look at what happened in the past two days since the iPad appeared officially for mortals like you and me. Below is a short list of the events and facts about the iPad, which seem to confirm the first reviews:

1 – First weekend saw sales around 700.000 units, way over the estimated numbers from various analysts and better than the iPhone in its first few days (270.000 units to be precise). What’s also interesting is that Apple managed to build enough devices to cover demand, even if some doubted that production capacities were high enough – via BusinessWeek

2 – The iPad was jailbroken within 24 hours from launch and the one who did it also posted a video showing off. If you ask me there was no doubt this will happen. The question was really how soon – via PMPToday

3 -The paid newspapers apps are not selling too well on the iPad. It seems people prefer free apps and have a lot of  free sources to get their daily bits of news from. Trying to make someone to pay for something your competition offers for free really is a tough sell these days. And when the asked price is bigger than the paper version the problem becomes even bigger – via Gizmodo

4 – Want to know what happens if you’re being careless with your iPad and say, drop if on the concrete, run over it with a car? iPadinsider has a torture test video that let’s you see how it fares in the dangerous world we’re living in.

5 - iPad benchmarks are up from Gizmodo. Yes, they cared to test the speed of the iPad. If you’re geeky enough head on to the results.

6 – Even the iPad can run out of memory, but maybe further OS updates will solve those kinds of problems.

7 – Bad news for productivity on the iPad: Microsoft doesn’t plan on releasing an Office version for it. Call me nuts, but I bet they will change their minds if the iPad sales reach the sky. I doubt they want to miss the opportunity to make more money – via Ubergizmo

8 – Gizmodo has a list of the 10 most essential Tips and Tricks on the iPad. Head on to see how you can best benefit from what the new tablet can do.

9  – Engadget wrote the first comprehensive review of the iPad. There will surely be more to follow, but if you want to get a deeper inside look read their first impressions after a few days of use.

That’s about it for today, as I think I’ve covered almost all the important facts about the iPad’s first days after launch. If you think I’ve missed something drop me a line below in the comment form and I’ll update this post.
