The source for 2012 iPad, Android and tablet PC news, reviews and accessories guides
It’s March 11th and the iPad 2 just started selling online on Apple’s website with retail availability starting at 5PM local time all over US in Apple Stores and through partners like AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s Club and Target. I don’t know if lines are bigger than the ones for the first iPad or the original iPhone, but I do know analysts predict iPad 2 will sell better than ever, with over 600.000 units projected sales for this weekend only. For comparison purposes, the iPad 1 sold over 300.000 units in its launch weekend.
That could be so big, that even Apple hasn’t managed to build enough stock to cover demand. And it’s not a supposition, as the shipping date for online purchases has been pushed back to 2-3 weeks, so you’ll get your tablet just about at the end of March. And you’re limited at 2 iPads per order, so you won’t be able to sell them overpriced on eBay anymore. And don’t even start saying Apple is building demand artificially using the scarcity principle, as it’s clear demand for iPad 2 is extremely high, especially after yesterday’s positive reviews.
