Three days after the official launch iPad 2 is nothing short of a success. Even if the lines in front of Apple stores all over US were not as big as the ones from the launch of the first iPhone, all iPad 2s are sold out right now, with online orders being pushed back 3 to 4 weeks. That’s what Apple calls a launch. I bet after this no one will dare question if the iPad 2 is the tablet of 2011 or not. And not only that, but 70% of sales went to new iPad users, so it’s clear that Apple doesn’t rely on fan-boys for this one (not that it would admit this for any of its devices).

It’s clear that the iPad 2 is gaining ground on those 99.7% percent of consumers that don’t have a tablet yet, so other manufacturers better hurry to establish their products asap, or else in a few years you’ll see the word ‘iPad’ associated with tablets, just like ‘iPod’ is now seen as the mp3 player. Anyway, it’s interesting to see how this successful US launch will impact the international launch slated for March 25th. Apple didn’t comment on this matter, and I don’t expect this to happen the next days, as I bet the company is making its calculations right now.

Now we’ll move one to another interesting aspect of iPad 2: its production cost is lower than the Motorola Xoom, no matter what model are you talking about, so it’s a success also from profits per unit point of view, something that can only benefit consumers and Apple at the same time. Apparently the 32 GB WiFi only iPad costs 323$ to manufacture, which gives Apple a few hundreds of dollars to play with on each sold model. That’s a dream for any tech company these days. This efficiency can be attributed to the fact Apple ordered millions of hardware components at once, allowing them to get a better deal than any of its competitors. It also shows self confidence from Apple, that trusts its capability to sell anything it orders.

The last iPad 2 news is one for enthusiasts: someone managed to jailbreak the iPad 2 iOS 4.3. This is great news for those wanting to take control of their tablet and install third party apps and other modifications. That’s it for today, but expect more iPad 2 news as they come.
