We’ve all concluded that tablets could to pretty much any task a regular user does with a computer, but tablets are the worst at typing. Investing in the best iPad 2 keyboard makes a huge difference in typing speed, improving tasks like writing long emails, documents, posting on your blog and even the occasional social status change. It’s a lot easier to type on a hardware keyboard than rely on the virtual one found on all tablets. Sure the iPad 2 has one of the best on-screen keyboards, but it’s still nothing compared to a real physical iPad 2 keyboard.

In this short post I’ll try and make a list of current best iPad 2 keyboards on market, as I see them by specs, user reviews and the value they add to your tablet. I’ll try and present both cheap and premium iPad 2 keyboards, along with multifunction accessories for iPad 2. So let’s not make the introduction longer than it needs to be and jump to the best iPad 2 keyboard list of AllTouchTablet.

    Logitech Tablet keyboard for iPad/iPad2 – $49

This is one of the most stylish keyboards for iPad thanks to the carrying case that acts also as a stand (see picture below for more retails). The low profile keyboard is comfortable to use thanks to its island separated keys. Besides the normal keys there are iOS specific functions for media control and other typical actions that now don’t require you to touch the screen any more.

The keyboard connects wirelessly to the iPad  or iPad 2 and has an effective range of 30 feet, enough for you to not being able to read what’s on the screen. The iPad/iPad 2 can be mounted in either portrait or landscape mode so you also get flexibility with this amazing keyboard that among the cheapest out there.

    Zagg ZAGGMate with Keyboard for iPad – $99 /iPad 2 – $99

This is the leading tight fit case with keyboard for the iPad and iPad 2 (separate models for each generation) and it’s made from the same type of aluminum as the iPad 2 case, matching it perfectly in terms of looks. Not only that, but the whole Zaggmate + iPad 2 assembly, once folded closed, adds to a very thin profile. The keyboard lies inside the screen cover, features Bluetooth connectivity, and has iOS specific keys, making for easier navigation on the iPad2 without using the screen (not that’s anything wrong with it).

As with most cases with keyboard for iPad 2, the ZAGG ZAGGMATE acts also as a stand with only one viewing angle, but accepts  both landscape and portrait orientation, so it matches better your working/playing style. It’s not cheap, but the solid construction and great design makes it hard to ignore when searching for the best iPad 2 keyboard. [Read our full review]

    Kensington 2nd Generation KeyFolio – $68

This is one of the few keyboards with case for iPad 2 that’s also backward compatible with the 1st gen iPad. If you like an agenda style iPad 2 case with a keyboard attached to the screen cover this is the case to get. The back cover acts as an iPad stand featuring an adjustable design thanks to the fact it folds down the middle and forms a triangle with the keyboard base. You can use the Kensington Keyfolio on any flat surface and even on your lap if you want that. The exterior is made from durable synthetic leather (it’s not the real thing, but it plays nice with the environment).

And a few words about the keyboard: it’s spill proof, has rubberized isolated keys with specific iPad iOS functions and connects via Bluetooth. It’s one of the best iPad 2 keyboards and has a great price/value ratio. [read full review of Kensington Keyfolio]

    Incase Origami – $37 + Apple Wireless keyboard – $69

When I first saw the Incase Origami I thought it’s nice to have one especially since it comes with that keyboard that looks like the Apple Wireless keyboard, but unfortunately it’s not the case. Incase Origami is just a carrying case for the Apple Wireless Keyboad, but can be folded as a stand that accepts the iPad and iPad 2 in vertical and horizontal orientation while making sure the keyboard stays still on your desk. The combo of Incase Origami and the Wireless keyboard will run you over 100 bucks, but it look nice and works as advertised, plus you now have a good way to transport the keyboard when not using it. Take a look at the picture below to see how this iPad 2 keyboard combo works:

Manotek Bluetooth keyboard case – $82

This is a pretty expensive case that comes from a not so well known manufacturer, which makes it look suspicious from start, but let me assure you it’s got a lot to be proud of. Let’s start with the exterior, that’s made from black synthetic leather and features a durable metal stand on the back. It’s a little bulky, but this wont’ mind business users (the intended target group). The keyboard is detachable, connects via Bluetooth and is compatible with iPad 1, iPad 2, iPhone 4, Galaxy Tab, Motorola Xoom, so you can get this case only for the sake of the keyboard.

The rubberized keys are spill-proof and protect iPad 2 screen from scratching when closed. The case unfortunately won’t fit anything else than the iPad 2, so if you have the first gen iPad look here for the cheaper model compatible with your tablet. Here’s a set of pictures that detail the way Manoteck iPad 2 keyboard works:
