You know that one of the things that make users think again before buying the iPad is not the lack of Flash support, but the diagonal of the screen, a put off for many because they can’t figure out why a tablet with limited computing functionality needs a 10 inch screen. Add to this the higher price of the larger screen and you have a clear picture on why the rumor of a 7 inch iPad coming down the road in early 2011 seems plausible.

Apple might shrink the current iPad to a more pocketable size and a friendlier price. The early 2011 appearance would mean exactly one year after the first iPad announcement, so the periodicity employed here is the one we’re used to from Apple. Also at that time the new iPhone 5 might be here to solve the problems of the current model. I personally think it’s too early to make any comments on this rumor so sit tight and wait for more info in the coming months.

Update: The new iPad mini (or 7 inch iPad, depending on how you want to tall it) will apparently use the ARM Cortex A9 series CPU with double the RAM of current iPad (512 MB vs 256). Also, regarding screen resolution, we will be ‘delighted’ by the same 1024 x 600 pixels as the current 9.7 inch IPS screen. At least it isn’t getting worse…
