Amazon announced the fourth generation Kindle eReader and the new Kindle Touch (with a 3G version) in the autumn of 2011 and all devices are a huge leap forward in terms of design, functionality and even pricing, starting at as low as $79 for Amazon Kindle 4 and going up to $99 for Kindle Touch and $149 for Kindle Touch 3G.
With this pricing scheme Amazon sets a new bar for how cheap it is to get into eReading. It’s also pushing Kindle cases and accessories manufacturers to lower their prices. Overall is possible to get a few accessories and the Kindle 4 itself for less than 100 bucks and under 130 for the Kindle Touch. This is why I’m putting together a list of a best cases and covers for Kindle 4/Kindle Touch and Touch 3G that won’t break the bank, but will make your Amazon eReader more practical.
I’ll be mentioning at each product the compatibility with Amazon’s eReaders. If you own the Kindle Keyboard check our list of cases and covers for it here. So let’s see the best cases and covers for Kindle (4th gen and Touch).
Purchasing info – Amazon Kindle 4, Amazon Kindle Touch
Made for Kindle 4 – the official Amazon Kindle case
This is probably one of the most expensive Kindle cases, costing $59.99, but it’s also one of the best looking, made from premium leather. It’s available in Black, Brown, Green and Purple and features an agenda design with snap in mount for the Kindle 4 eReader. A LED light comes from the top and draws energy from Kindle’s own battery, so you don’t have to worry about recharging it. Being the official Amazon Kindle 4 case means all buttons and ports are accessible. And the cover folds back for easy reading, just like a normal paper book.

Kindle Lighted Leather Cover
Made for Kindle 4 – the official Amazon Kindle case
If you want to lower the price a little bit, to $39.99, and still stick with an original Amazon Kindle 4 case get the Kindle Leather Cover, also available in Black, Brown, Green and Purple. You’ll lose the LED light, but still get a premium leather exterior with a folding back cover and a very slim profile.

Kindle Leather Cover
Made for Kindle Touch and Touch 3G – the official Amazon Kindle case
This is the exact case as the first one, but made to fit the Kindle Touch (non-3G and 3G). It costs the same, $59.99, is made from premium leather, folds back for easy reading, comes with a LED light and can be bought in Black, Brown, Purple and Green.

Kindle Touch Lighted Leather Cover
Available for Kindle 4 and Kindle Touch (both models)
Let’s now get to serious business and see the cheaper models, like the TeckNet Kindle leather Cover, a $9.99 leather cover with stand functionality available for Kindle 4th gen as well as for the Kindle Touch variants. There are concessions to be made to get the price that low and I’m talking about the use of synthetic leather, but the interior is made from soft microsuede. There are five color variants: Black, Purple, Pink, Brown and Blue, all including a vertical stand with multiple angles of inclination.

Available for Kindle 4 and Kindle Touch (both models)
If you prefer a cheap agenda style case TeckNet has you covered here too, also with a $9.99 Kindle case. This time the stand functionality was ditched in favour of a more classic appearance. The Screen cover can be folded back for easier reading and includes multiple slots for business cards. The building materials include synthetic leather for exterior and soft microsuede for interior lining. The case cover is also available for Kindle 4 and both Kindle Touch models.

TeckNet Kindle Touch Leather Cover With Multi Slots
Works with Kindle 4 and Kindle Touch (both models)
As I figure out, this is one case that fits both the Kindle 4 and the Kindle Touch (3G or not) due to the four straps that secure Amazon’s eReader in place at corners. Costs a little bit more, $29.99, but is made from faux leather (Black of Purple), was designed with a slim profile in mind, offers a secure inner pocket, soft inner lining and magnetic tab enclosure. It’s even protected by a one-year warranty.

Belkin Verve Tab Folio
Works with Kindle 4 and Kindle Touch (both models)
For a few dollars more than the Belkin cover you can get the Marware Eco-Flip ($34.99), also a folio type case that can be used as a detective notepad with the screen cover able to flip over the top, not the left side, acting as a vertical stand. It’s Certified “Made for Kindle” compatible with all the new models released in 2011. An interior strap helps you with getting a better grip if you’re not comfortable with letting your eReader from your hand (literally). A few pockets can conceal ID and business cards, if desired.

Let’s end with another Amazon made accessory for both the Kindle 4th gen and Touch models. It’s a sleeve this time with a simple yet elegant design, is lightweight and available in five colors: Coral, Blue, Charcoal, Graphite and Lime. A zipper is used to secure your eReader in place while a soft lining protects the screen and case against scratches.
