Now that the Blackberry Playbook, the only 7 inch enterprise oriented tablet, is here (read our presentation) it’s time to see what else we can add to make it a worthy mobile companion, and I’m talking about getting the best Blackberry Playbook case out there. We can’t solve any of its software problems and lack of apps at launch time, but we surely can think of accessories, covers and cases for Blackberry PlayBook that can add functionality and versatility. I’m talking about the best Blackberry Playbook cases. In case you’re wondering how I make my selection, I hope it’s clear for everyone that I’m not testing each of them (it’s impossible at this time) so basically I scan for products in online stores and make the list taking into consideration things like bestselling (some store offer this sorting option), price, functionality and sometimes looks, as we all know consumers take decisions based on design more often than not. Let’s start with this Genuine Leather Cover for the Playbook, a classic agenda style case with two internal pockets for personal storage like credit and business cards. The pockets are on the left while the 7 inch tablet goes to the right in a slide-in compartment made also from leather. When using the tablet you don’t have to take it out (like it should be with a good case) so you just flip the screen cover on the back. You can also fold the screen cover in two and form a triangle when viewed from the side, and now the whole case acts like a stand with two orientations, one steep angle for media watching and a mild one for typing and browsing. Even if it’s not the best Blackberry Playbook case, for 25 bucks this case is a really nice choice if you’re not looking for something too extreme.

Blackberry Playbook Otterbox Defender

If you’re looking for a touch case to protect your Playbook in any kind of harsh environment there’s no better option than the Otterbox Defender Case (from the already classic Defender series), made from a hard polycarbonate shell with three layers of protection. The Playbook tablets gets in by a clip on move and gets a clear protective membrane on touch screen to protect against scratches and smudges. The Otterbox Defender also acts like a sturdy tablet stand, ideal for typing and watching media files on it. As you can expect all ports and buttons are accessible, so toughness doesn’t get into the way of productivity. Because of that this is my favorite for the best Blackberry Playbook case title.

Mivizu Genuine Leather Cover with Stand

The Mivizu Blackberry Playbook case is also made from genuine leather with a microfiber interior lining and features the same agenda design, but with a twist: the screen cover folds on the outside in stand mode making for a somewhat more solid stand when working. As I understand you can also adjust the inclination angle this way thanks to a few stoppers mounted on the inside lining of the screen cover. The 7 inch PlayBook goes inside a slide-in compartment make also from leather.

Targus Zierra Leather Portfolio

Now we’re stepping up to a more serious case, a portfolio actually, that offers lots of compartments for credit cards, photos and notes similar to a billfold. Also the Zierra case converts into a one-position stand so the PlayBook can be used inside of the case. Otherwise I don’t see how you could use the tablet without taking it out. The exterior is made from Top Grain Leather, so it’s a high quality Blackberry Playbook Case (see the price in case you don’t believe me).

As added functionality I have to mention the secure slide tab closure, loop for pen/stylus and a screen cleaner that stores inside the case. The only downside I can find for the Targus Zierra Portfolio case for Blackberry Playbook, besides the price, is the fact it’s pretty bulky.

Targus Truss Case/Stand

If you want something lighter than the Targus Zierra there’s always the Truss Case/Stand for Playbook tablet, also by Targus, that feature a classic agenda design with stand (with two positions) and the same top grain leather interior. This time a soft lining is protecting the inside. Also to use the PlayBook in the case, Truss opens like a book, so you don’t have to remove the tablet, plus a secure wrap-around band holds the case closed when not in use. It’s the ideal premium case for Blackberry Playbook if you ask me.

TPU Polymer Shell Case Cover

This is a little bit unusual, it’s a tight fit Shell cover/case for Blackberry Playbook made from a plastic polymer moulded for the perfect fit with cut-outs for digital cameras and connection ports, so you don’t need to ever take the tablet out. A foldable easel type of stand comes from the back, transforming the TPU Polymer Shell into a Blackberry Playbook stand for watching movies. The advantage of a polymers shell is that unlike cheaper silicone it won’t stretch or droop with time and doesn’t attract fluff and dust, so this is a case for Blackberry Playbook to watch.

This is one tough Hard case for the Blackberry Playbook tablet and is compatible with other models up to 10 inches in size. It uses the branded fire, water and shock resistant Duro-Shock xEVA HardBody shell (yeap, it’s fire resistant!). The secret is Rich Carbon Fiber material laminated outer shell. That’s the outside, as on the inside we have lock down straps for your tablet plus 3 inner pockets for accessories like cords, power adapters and small gadgets. You can put the 10 inch Slappa Carbon Elektra HardBody inside a case our use the shoulder strap to carry it around (that’s what I would do). If you’re more into protecting your investment than looking good this is the best case for Blackberry Playbook.

DURAGADGET Soft Neoprene Zip Case

If you want a cheap carrying case for Blackberry Playbook then you must get the Duragadget Soft Neoprene Zip case. It fits not only RIM’s tablet, but other 7 inch tablets too. It closes with dual zippers and features an accessory pocket for the charger, memory cards and whatever you might want to carry around with you. A wrist strap is included and so is the protection from water, splashes as well as dust and scratches. You can’t go wrong with this neoprene zip case, and it also comes in four colours: Black, Blue, Pink and Purple.
