The source for 2012 iPad, Android and tablet PC news, reviews and accessories guides
Now that the revelation for the end of this year was announced: Amazon Kindle Fire, a 7 inch tablet with a surprisingly low $199 price point I’ve started noticing the first accessories for it, namely cases, folios, sleeves and covers. Since the tablet will be released on November 15th I bet there will be lots of new accessories coming, but since a lot of consumers have already pre-ordered the Kindle Fire I’d say giving them a list of accessories to choose from is not a bad idea.
Since the Kindle Fire is build and sold by Amazon (with distribution to reach other retailers t00) I though that Amazon.com is the best source right now for accessories like cases. The next few products featured in this list are taken from Amazon’s bestselling list. It’s not the largest list right now, but expect it to grow in the next couple of weeks. So if you’re interested make sure to bookmark this page for further reference, as I’ll be updating it constantly.
One more mention I want to make before we get to the list of Amazon Kindle Fire cases: since the tablet is based on the Blackberry Playbook you might want to take a look at some accessories for RIM’s tablet [read our list], as dimensions are roughly the same.
Amazon Kindle Fire – details and purchasing info
The only difference is in the ports layout: I know for sure the stereo speakers of the Fire are placed on the sides, and the other ports have been moved too, so make sure you get a case that’s doesn’t impede access to the important buttons and other functions… or get a dedicated Kindle Fire case from below.
The Marware C.E.O. Hybrid might seem like a premium case, but actually it’s not, as price is quite affordable at $45. What we have here is a genuine leather f0lio with an agenda design. The interior is lined with soft microsuede for more protection and a soft touch you’ll appreciate. As with most agenda style cases, the Marware C.E.O. Hybrid cover can be used as a stand (horizontal orientation with 2 angles) and a strap on the interior of the screen cover allows you to place your hand inside and hold the tablet while giving a presentation, checking up inventory and other actions that relate to business use (maybe that’s where the CEO in the name comes from). During transportation a high-grade elastic strap holds the lid open or closed. If you don’t like the sober black exterior you’ll be happy to know that this Kindle Fire cover is available in Brown, Green and Pink also.

If you want something more eco-friendly than the Marware CEO Hybrid, but with similar features you can get the Belkin Verve Tab Folio, a tight fit faux leather folio with magnetic tab for secure transportation. The interior lining is also smooth and soft to the touch and protects the screen against scratches. The back cover features holes for the two speakers on top and the connectors at the bottom, so you can charge and use your 7 inch Amazon tablet without taking it out of the slim form fitting folio. There’s no stand functionality, but you get a pocket to store notes or business cards. Besides Black, there are Purple and Sunset Pink models to be ordered.

A sleeve is not the best Kindle Fire case if you’re looking for something with a nice design, multiple function and such, but it’s excellent if you’re seeking an easy transportation accessory, TSA approved (that’s something new), with a low profile custom closure and a high density foam protection layer that safeguards the 7 inch tablet against accidental drops. No pockets for accessories is the only downside of Timbuk2 Slim Sleeve.

Timbuk2 Slim Sleeve
If you want a better sleeve get the Belkin Grip Sleeve, made of durable neoprene and LASER-etched silicone with reinforced panels that protect the screen. It’s a lightweight sleeve with soft inner lining and can be handwashed with mild soap and water. I’m sure the comb-design of the silicone part will catch a lot of dirt and dust so it’s good you can just wash it. Dual zippers ensure you can close and open the sleeve fast. Available colors are Blacktop, Infinity Pool and Paparazzi Pink.

If you want tough protection and functionality the best option is the Marware MicroShell Folio Cover that features a hard polycarbonate back piece with a soft protective lid for enhanced protection against scratches and accidental drops. The soft lid also acts as a stand, similar to what we’ve seen with the Apple Smart Cover for iPad 2. An elastic strap holds the protective lid in Open or Closed position. There are three versions available: Grey, Pink and White, all at the same price.

If you want to go official this is the Amazon Kindle Fire Zip Sleeve. There’s not much to say about this sleeve, which is said to be lightweight, simple (only one zipper and no pockets for accessories), and is available in Coral, Blue, Charcoal, Graphite and Lime. It’s not cheap, but I have to say it looks good to me.

If you like to keep things simple there’s always the third Marware case for Kindle Fire, the Jurni Cover, available in Black and Red. It’s a certified “Made for Kindle” accessory made from nylon and soft fabric exterior with soft microsuede interior lining meant to protect the Amazon Kindle Fire against stratches and bumps. An interior hand strap allows you to use the tablet and hold it securely at the same time. An external pocket is available for cards, notes and small accessories. Dual Zippers are used for easy accessibility.

Yesterday was a busy day for Amazon, which announced lots of new products including the Kindle Fire tablet and new...
I have been wanting a Kindle since they first came out, but still have not made the leap to buy one yet. If I do I will definitely be getting a case for it so that I don’t mess it up when taking it everywhere with me. I really like the zip sleeve. Is the material Neoprene?
Yeap, it’s neoprene, which makes it waterproof (if the zippers are too).
I have resisted buying into the tablet craze until now. Amazon really got everything right with the Fire….great features and low price. I may end up picking up one of these. Of all the available protective sleeves, I think I like the design from Marware C.E.O. Hybrid Cover the best.
I already have a kindle and a ipad so I probably won’t be getting one of these for awhile. I do really like the size and the portability of it. And I love the beautiful cases they already have out for them. Dang! Now I really want one!
Nice! I’m buying a kindle as a family Christmas gift for all of us this year. I like those Marware cases because of the stand – that’s a great idea! Thanks for reviewing these – perfect timing.
I think I’ve got a much better idea of which tablet to buy for my son, who will be a freshman in college. I think it makes a lot of sense for a kid to take a notebook to college, since it will be a lot easier to take notes with a tablet than keeping track of a bunch of paper. And of course a sleeve makes a lot of sense. Thanks for putting all this work into this post!
Great review – as usual! I love these cases! I especially like the one that comes with the stand in the back.
